The USNS 1st. Lt. Jack Lummus, operated by AMSEA and manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers, recently received the highest review Military Sealift Command gives for an outstanding inspection. The cargo holds, deck cranes, accommodation/galley, engine room decks and machinery, and MSD space all received the ‘Bravo Zulu’ rating, which denotes outstanding material condition and appearance. “This validates the strength of the AMO officers and SIU crew onboard the MPF vessels for the past 20 years, working hard to maintain the vessels in the highest condition for the U.S. Marine Corps,” said First Assistant Engineer Joe Gelhaus. AMO and Seafarers International Union members working aboard the USNS Lummus included SIU Electrician M. Rueter, Chief Engineer J. Behm, First A.E. Gelhaus, Pumpman R. Digman, Chief Mate P. Kirk, QMED T. Jones and GUDE J. Quitugua. The USNS Lummus is the flagship of the USN MPSRON 3 and the USMC II MEF and is forward deployed to the Guam/Saipan area of responsibility.
