Each winter, most ships on the Great Lakes lay up for several months. In the spring, mariners prepare them for an annual Coast Guard inspection. Water, electricity and other vital functions must be restored to specifications. In mid-April the M/V American Integrity prepared for the shipping season in Toledo, Ohio. The Integrity, a 1000-foot self-unloading bulk carrier, is owned and operated by American Steamship Company and manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.
