MSC Commander Rear Adm. Mark Buzby joins AMO officers aboard the USNS 1st Lt. Jack Lummus in celebrating the life and service of the ship's namesake. Lummus played in the NFL as a member of the New York Giants in 1941. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was quickly made an officer. Lummus was killed in action on Iwo Jima March 8, 1945, after performing numerous acts of extreme bravery. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. With Rear Adm. Buzby are Chief Engineer Michael Fagan, Third Assistant Engineer V.J. Radovcic, First A.E. Joseph Gelhaus and Second A.E. Phil Parent.
