The crew of the Independence II gathered on the fore deck at 1300 LT for a brief ceremony to commemorate sailors past and present in celebration of National Maritime Day. The ship's bell was rung in honor of those who leave their families to sail the oceans of the world, in many cases to contribute to our nation's defense and providing aid to those in need. Officers and crew of the Independence II included (left to right) AB Ronald Ramos, SA Daniel Miller, AB Anthony Pace, Bosun Carl Pedersen, OMU Van Dixon, Steward Patricia Sullivan, OMU Charles Walker, Maine Cadet William Grace, Maine Cadet Christopher Hulse, OMU Jonathyn Bland, AB Robert Borchester, AB Slyvester Kowalski, AB Thomas Jarrett, Kings Point Cadet Lindsey Eriksson, First Assistant Engineer Edward Lobb, Kings Point Cadet Molly King, Second Mate Paul Geiken, Second A.E.
