Some STAR Center courses now accepted for credit at Mountwest Community and Technical College

Some courses provided at STAR Center will now be accepted for credit at Mountwest Community and Technical College in Huntington, W.V. The college credits may be applied to an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Technical Studies Ð Marine Technology.

STAR Center - a division of the AMO Safety & Education Plan and the primary training provider for members of American Maritime Officers - has entered into an affiliation agreement with the college. Members wishing to take advantage of this agreement must enroll online with the college and then submit course certificates for completed STAR Center courses. The college will work with students to determine how many credits will be awarded. Mountwest College may award additional academic credits for holding a U.S. Coast Guard maritime license.

A complete list of the courses that may be eligible for credit transfer is available online.

Certain administrative fees normally assessed to Mountwest College students, including application and portfolio fees, have been waived for AMO members under this articulation agreement.

Two additional schools, American Public University and Florida Atlantic University, will also soon accept various STAR Center courses for credit towards graduate degree programs. The details of the agreements with these schools are currently being finalized and will be published when complete.

AMO members interested in management and other shoreside positions could earn a jump-start at graduate, bachelor and associate degree programs from Mountwest College and other institutions with credits from STAR Center courses.
