Coast Guard commends STAR Center

On Dec. 13, Course Oversight Auditor Nancy Hejde, LTJG, of Regional Exam Center Miami, and Assistant Auditor Zona Mingo conducted a National Maritime Center course oversight visit and progress survey at the AMO Safety & Education Plan's STAR Center in Dania Beach, Fla., which is a U.S. Coast Guard approved training facility.

In her report on the administrative visit, Hejde included two 'commendable' notes and one observation:

Commendable: "Continues to have an impeccable record of files and standards are of the highest in the industry. Very clean facility, instructors highly knowledgeable, and staff is always friendly and welcoming to the Coast Guard."

Commendable: "Excellent training environment and instructorship during observation of Basic Safety Training. Classroom was excellent as always and although slightly cool, the students seemed content. Excellent student/instructor interaction. Very high remarks/comments from student surveys about this class and their overall experience at Star Center."

Observation: "A current schedule to be attached to site approvals was received in September and all files are up to date. Facility, instructors, and admin were all in great shape."

Hejde concluded that no corrective actions were required.

STAR Center, a division of the AMO Safety & Education Plan, is the primary training provider for members of American Maritime Officers.
