AMO Medical Plan: benefits enhanced with transition to CIGNA HealthCare Network Open Access Plan


The following letter dated June 22, 2010, has been mailed to AMO Medical Plan participants.

The Trustees of the American Maritime Officers Medical Plan are pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2010 we are enhancing your benefits by transitioning to the CIGNA HealthCare Network Open Access Plan (OAP).

This change to CIGNA Open Access is a very positive one for everyone. Here are some of the highlights that our membership will enjoy:
  • There will be no reduction to current benefits and no increase of deductibles, co-pays or co-insurance.
  • The CIGNA Open Access Plan (OAP) has the same freedom of provider choice.
  • Your current CIGNA Providers will remain in-network.
  • Web Tools and 24-hour Customer Service (contact 1-800-244-6224)
  • AMO Participants will have electronic access via mycigna.com to the following:
    • Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
    • Benefit Information
    • Eligibility Information
    • Health Records and Care Tracking
    • Print or Request ID cards
    • Care Management
Areas that will not be changing on July 1, 2010 are the following:
  • All medical claims that require direct member reimbursement (Optical, Dental, Scholarship, and Disability) will continue to be sent to the AMO Medical Plan office for processing.
  • Prescription Drug Benefit - please continue to use your current Prescription Drug ID cards.
  • Medicare Eligible Pensioners - please continue to use your current AMO Medical Plan ID card.
  • If you or your dependents currently have secondary access to the PPOM/Cofinity PPO Network, please continue to utilize the PPOM/Cofinity Network in addition to the new CIGNA Open Access Network.
All participants with current active medical benefits will receive a new AMO Medical Plan CIGNA ID card. If you do not receive one within the next 30 days and believe you should have, please contact the AMO Medical Plan office. Your healthcare providers will still be able to access your healthcare information with or without the new CIGNA ID card so there will be no disruption of service.
