Reminder: STCW renewal requirements

AMO National Vice President at Large Mike Murphy would like to remind members there are three requirements for renewal of a Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW) certificate:

1. Mariners must have 365 days of sea time
2. Mariners must attend regular drills held onboard their vessel
3. Sea time must be accrued on vessels covered by SOLAS

Great Lakes mariners should be aware that Great Lakes vessels are not covered by SOLAS. If a mariner's vessel is not covered by SOLAS, he or she must take a refresher course to meet STCW requirements.
