AMO Medical Plan reviewing potential impact of health care reform law

The AMO Medical Plan office has received numerous calls from Plan participants with questions regarding the provisions of the recently enacted federal health care reform legislation, which requires group health plans that provide dependent coverage to offer coverage for dependents up to the age of 26.

As previously reported, the Plan trustees, office staff, and plan professionals, as well as CIGNA, continue to review all of the applicable provisions of the complex new law to determine the effect they will have on the Plan.

Regulatory guidance on exactly how and when these and all of the applicable provisions will apply to collectively bargained multiemployer medical plans, such as the AMO Medical Plan, is expected soon. The AMO membership will be apprised once this guidance is received and the changes to the AMO Medical Plan that will be required by the law can be determined. Please continue to monitor AMO Currents and the AMO newspaper for updates on this issue.
