Maritime Industry Sail-In and Congressional Reception on Capitol Hill May 13

The first ever Maritime Industry Sail-In will be held May 13 in Washington, D.C. The Sail-In will focus on the importance of America's maritime industry to national security and the economy and will promote Congressional support for programs and policies that encourage the growth of U.S. shipping.

"Over the past decade, most of our traditional maritime supporters in Congress have retired or left the Hill for various reasons. The purpose of the Sail-In is to extend maritime's reach and visibility across the Hill and to powerfully demonstrate the value our industry brings to the nation and the U.S. economy," stated the event's sponsor, the U.S. Maritime Coalition, comprised of U.S. maritime companies, labor organizations and interests, including American Maritime Officers and American Maritime Officers Service.

The Sail-In will begin with a morning reception featuring keynote speaker Rep. James Oberstar (D-MN), chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and will continue with events throughout the day.

The coalition invites merchant mariners to participate in the Sail-In and speak with members of Congress about the importance of their industry. More details and registration information are available online.
