Unofficial reports indicate AMO jobs secure on Bob Hope Class LMSRs

American Maritime Officers has received unofficial reports regarding Military Sealift Command’s assignments of new charters for 11 large medium-speed roll-on/roll-off ships, all of which are currently operated under AMO contract.

According to these reports, American Overseas Marine Corp. has been awarded the new operating contract for the seven Bob Hope Class LMSRs, which the company currently manages for MSC. The seven ships covered by this lot in the request for proposals (RFP) are the USNS Benavidez, USNS Brittin, USNS Bob Hope, USNS Fisher, USNS Mendonca, USNS Pililaau and USNS Seay.

According to the reports, the operating contract for lots two and three, covering the USNS Gordon, USNS Gilliland, USNS Shughart and USNS Yano, was awarded to American Ship Management (Patriot Contract Services), a non-AMO company. The USNS Shughart and USNS Yano are currently operated by AMSEA, and the USNS Gordon and USNS Gilliland are currently operated by 3PSC LLC.

“Each government RFP is extremely competitive and the outcome of each is unpredictable,” said AMO National President Tom Bethel. “The officers working aboard all of the ships in the LMSR program have demonstrated the expertise, excellence and professionalism typical of AMO members and required to make the missions in which these ships serve successful.”

The charter covering the USNS Gordon, USNS Gilliland, USNS Shughart and USNS Yano was awarded as a small business set-aside contract. The current operator of the Gordon and Gilliland, 3PSC LLC, late last year was awarded the charter for seven MSC T-AGS ships, which the company is now operating under AMO contract.

An update will be provided when official announcements regarding this RFP are made.
