The National Executive Board of American Maritime Officers has determined that a membership dues increase is not necessary in 2010.
The board’s unanimous finding was based upon its recent review of our union’s finances with certified public accountants and the recommendation of the AMO national secretary-treasurer. The review and the recommendation are required annually under Article V Section 1(f) of the AMO National Constitution.
Membership dues in American Maritime Officers have been increased only four times in 28 years, and dues rates in AMO remain the lowest among the three merchant marine officers’ unions.
Our good news about dues is coupled with an urgent reminder to continue to support the American Maritime Officers Voluntary Political Action Fund, which is used exclusively to support the election campaigns of members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate known to support the U.S. merchant fleet and the American merchant mariner in all domestic and international trades. Federal law does not permit the use of general funds for this always-important purpose.

National President
