Starting Jan. 4, 2010, the Coast Guard will accept merchant mariner credential applications at its 17 regional exam centers (RECs) by e-mail.
E-mailed applications must be complete packages (per the Coast Guard’s application acceptance checklist), in Portable Document Format (PDF), and no more than 10 megabytes in size. The acceptance checklist can be viewed online.
E-mailed applications must not be scanned at a resolution higher than 300 dpi (dots per inch). Mariners must attach a copy of their TWIC or TWIC application receipt and pay any applicable user fees through www.pay.gov.
The subject of the e-mail must be in this format: mariner’s last name, mariner’s first name, mariner’s middle initial and mariner number (if known).
A list of e-mail addresses to which applications may be submitted is available online. Mariners should submit their application to only one REC.
