New private disability insurance underwritten by Lloyd’s of London available to all AMO members

A new voluntary private disability insurance program underwritten by certain underwriters at Lloyd’s of London is now available to all members of American Maritime Officers.

Over the past few years, AMO members have expressed an interest in and cited the need for a disability insurance program. In response, AMO Plans has been working with A & B Insurance and Financial Services to design a comprehensive disability policy specifically to meet the needs of the AMO membership.

Employing the financial strength of the world’s oldest insurance organization, Lloyd’s of London, a program has been developed that offers a simplified issue-disability insurance policy. This policy allows AMO members to apply online, by e-mail, FAX, phone or regular mail.

Once accepted, an insured individual under this policy will be paid benefits for a maximum period of three years if he or she is not able to perform his or her regular occupation due to an accident, injury or illness, in accordance with the terms of the policy. Coverage applies to injuries or illnesses either on or off the job. Even if an individual is injured at home, he or she will be covered under this policy. Benefits are normally considered to be tax-free.

While AMO Plans has arranged to make this private disability insurance program available to AMO members, the individual private disability insurance policies are not managed or funded by AMO or AMO Plans.
