Pay increases in new contract for chemical tankers

American Maritime Officers secured wage increases totaling 16.4 percent (with compounding) over the life a new four-year agreement with Intrepid Personnel and Provisioning, a division of Crowley Petroleum Services, covering the SMT Chemical Trader and SMT Chemical Explorer. By year, the increases are 5 percent, 4 percent, 3.5 percent and 3 percent.

Negotiations began June 30 and the new agreement took effect July 1. The AMO negotiating committee also secured all actuarially-required increases in contributions to the American Maritime Officers Plans. The total labor cost increase over the life of the contract is 18 percent.

Serving on the negotiating committee with AMO National Assistant Vice President at Large Bob Kiefer, AMO Representative Charles Murdock and AMO Contract Analyst Chris Holmes were Capt. Shannon Smith, master of the Chemical Explorer, and Chief Engineer James Sullivan of the Chemical Trader.

“I’m pleased with the outcome of the negotiations,” Kiefer said. “The AMO bargaining unit members are to be commended for their hard work and contributions during the process. This is a strong agreement that reflects the gains we achieved for members working aboard the other tankers in the Crowley fleet.”
