Coast Guard updates 'unescorted access' policy

The U.S. Coast Guard has updated its policy on unescorted access for individuals awaiting replacement Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) cards. The previous policy limited unescorted access for such individuals to no longer than seven days. The policy is being changed to permit individuals awaiting replacement TWIC cards unescorted access for no longer than 30 days -- allowing TWIC holders more time to receive a replacement for a lost or damaged card.

Under the updated policy, the individual must show the vessel security officer or facility security officer that the replacement TWIC has been ordered (according to the updated policy, a receipt for payment is acceptable as proof). The individual must also provide the VSO, FSO or other security personnel with first name, last name and (if known) application number for the replacement TWIC. The complete policy notice is available online.
