Rear Adm. Mark Buzby Oct. 16 will assume command of the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command from Rear. Adm. Robert Reilly Jr. Rear Adm. Reilly has held the post of MSC commander since March 2006.
Rear Adm. Buzby has been serving as deputy chief of staff for global force management and joint operations, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.
Buzby graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1979 with a bachelor of science in nautical science and a U.S. Coast Guard third mate's license.
He made several deployments aboard cruisers and destroyers during his early career. He served as commanding officer aboard the USS Carney, which under his command earned several important Navy awards, including the USS Arizona Memorial Award for most combat-ready ship in the US. Navy during a two-year period.
After receiving his flag, Buzby served in the Navy staff as deputy for surface ships, deputy for surface warfare, deputy for expeditionary warfare and as commander, Joint Task Force Guantanamo.
In addition to his King's Point degree, he also holds a master's degree in international relations from Salve Regina University and a master's degree in strategic studies and international affairs from the U.S. Naval War College.
