STAR Center adds additional STCW 2-Day Basic Training and Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation courses for 2023
STAR Center has added additional STCW 2-Day Basic Training and Advanced Fire Fighting (BT/AFF) Revalidation courses for 2023 required for MMC renewal on the following dates:
- March 16-17, 2023
- May 3-4, 2023
- June 7-8, 2023
- July 6-7, 2023
- August 3-4, 2023
- September 14-15, 2023
- October 26-27, 2023
STAR Center has seen a decrease in the number of mariners attending the revalidation. All actively sailing members/applicants with STCW endorsement should take the revalidation course ANYTIME in the five-year validity period of their MMC and NOT WAIT until their credential is expiring to try to enroll in these courses.
These new dates have been added to assist mariners in getting these required courses and to coincide with company officer conferences taking place at STAR Center.
As a reminder, for renewal of STCW endorsements on an MMC, a mariner must submit the following to the United States Coast Guard:
- 360 days sea service (Service on any vessel that is required to hold regular fire and emergency and abandon ship drills qualifies)
- Basic Training Revalidation (one-day course, dated within 5 years of renewal)
- Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation (one-day course, dated within 5 years of renewal)
If you meet the above requirements, the USCG will renew the following STCW endorsements:
- reg. VI/1 - Basic Training
- reg. VI/3 - Advanced Fire Fighting
- reg. VI/2 - Proficiency in Survival Craft.
NOTE: Those on Great Lakes and Reduced Operating Status (ROS) vessels, that regularly hold fire and emergency and abandon ship drills, receive full sea service credit towards STCW sea service requirements per USCG NVIC 08-14 and 09-14.
