STAR Center Fast Rescue Boat class assists grounded sailboat

On October 20 at approximately 1300, AMO officers in STAR Center's Fast Rescue Boat class had the opportunity to put their training into practice by assisting a sailboat that had run aground in the Dania Cut Off Canal in South Florida. The 42-foot sailboat was outbound when it ran aground and requested assistance. STAR Center's jet-drive boat was rigged and the AMO officers and STAR Center instructors onboard freed the stranded vessel in short order using a second fast rescue boat as a standby vessel. Participating in the class with STAR Center Instructors John Mansfield and Joe Braun were Phillip McKenzie, Andrew Perlak, Jackson Simone and Alice Stenquist.
