Bipartisan infrastructure bill 'provides greater opportunities to build new American vessels and employ mariners'

The following was released November 15 by the American Maritime Partnership, a coalition of which American Maritime Officers Service is a member and which American Maritime Officers supports.

WASHINGTON - Today, the American Maritime Partnership (AMP) released the following statement on President Joe Biden's signing of the bipartisan transportation infrastructure bill, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this month and was approved by the U.S. Senate in August.

"We applaud Congress and President Biden for passing a bipartisan transportation infrastructure bill that invests in our nation's maritime ports and inland waterways and supports American offshore wind development, which will provide greater opportunities to build new American vessels and employ mariners," said Mike Roberts, President of the American Maritime Partnership. "The critical maritime investments in this legislation further underscore the steadfast commitment of President Biden and the U.S. Congress to American maritime, hardworking mariners, and our nation's crucial cabotage laws, which serve to strengthen our economic, national and homeland security."

The bipartisan legislation includes increased funding for American maritime infrastructure, greater support for domestic offshore wind development and a continued affirmation of the Administration and Congress' strong commitment to the domestic maritime sector. America's maritime infrastructure is more critical now than ever and, despite disruptions to our international supply chains, American Maritime carriers have remained reliable and resilient for customers, consumers and businesses across the nation.
