Secretary of Transportation Chao, Maritime Administrator Buzby: Outspoken advocates for U.S. merchant mariners, U.S.-flag fleet

Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao and Maritime Administrator Rear Adm. Mark Buzby (U.S. Navy, retired) have resigned their posts in the administration, concluding recent tenures distinguished - particularly from our perspective - by their outspoken advocacy and strong support for American merchant mariners, the U.S.-flag fleet and the important roles of the U.S. Merchant Marine in national defense, commerce and security.

The outstanding work and public service of both Secretary Chao and Administrator Buzby extend far beyond their service in this administration and throughout long careers, including previous posts as Secretary of Labor and Commander of Military Sealift Command, respectively. Their departures are our loss and we thank them for their service.
