STAR Center: In-person courses canceled January 4 to January 8 due to regional increase in coronavirus infections

As a result of local, state and national conditions regarding the COVID-19 health emergency, including stay at home and travel restrictions, and in consultation with the AMO Medical Director, STAR Center is canceling in-person courses and no students will be allowed on campus the week of January 4 to January 8, 2021.

Local testing results on December 16 showed 672 new coronavirus cases in Broward County and three COVID-19 fatalities, with a positivity rate of 8.08 percent - an increase from 7.53 percent the previous day. In Miami-Dade County, the positivity rate was 9.02 percent on December 16, and in Palm Beach County, it was 8.19 percent. Local conditions such as they are could result in quarantine for students arriving in South Florida and returning home or to a vessel from South Florida.

This decision is being made in an abundance of caution and with the health and safety of all students and staff being given the highest priority. All of those who are impacted by this decision are being contacted directly by STAR Center to reschedule courses.
