STAR Center: Information for AMO S&E Plan participants regarding U.S. Coast Guard REC openings and exam scheduling
The U.S. Coast Guard has released a new bulletin regarding limited reopenings of RECs and exam scheduling procedures. This bulletin includes the specific procedure to follow to schedule testing at the open RECs, including Miami.
Anyone applying/requesting self-study at STAR Center needs to ensure testing can be scheduled at the REC and verify the ability to test in his or her desired time frame. Access to the self-study program at STAR Center will be limited in numbers and duration to ensure all those with a need are able to be accommodated.
STAR Center will work with all eligible Safety and Education Plan participants with an approval to test letter as we coordinate with the U.S. Coast Guard to facilitate testing opportunities.
STAR Center will use the following process:
- The individual applying to test with the U.S. Coast Guard is responsible for obtaining a confirmed test date with the USCG in accordance with the procedures in the NMC bulletin prior to coming to STAR Center for self-study. REC Miami is currently scheduling approximately four to six weeks out.
- When applying for self-study upgrade at STAR Center, the confirmation of the scheduled test date from the USCG must be provided with the application.
- Self-Study test preparation at STAR Center will be provided for up to two weeks prior to the scheduled test date. STAR Center will continue to support license upgrade study software for those upgrading in accordance with the Non-Resident Training (NRT) Program procedures.
