Following fire in June, AMO headquarters scheduled to reopen July 6, but July membership meeting is canceled

The National Executive Board of American Maritime Officers has set July 6 as the reopening date for AMO headquarters in Dania Beach, Fla. as repairs to the building continue following a small fire on June 5.

Although AMO staff members will begin working from the building again in July, the executive board agreed to cancel the monthly membership meeting scheduled for July 6 with the intent of minimizing the risk of coronavirus contagion among AMO members traveling to, participating in and returning to their homes or to their vessels after the meeting.

Broward County requirements and protocols in place as of this date prohibit gatherings of 10 or more people. Although the State of Florida continues reopening overall, daily increases in coronavirus infections are numbering in the thousands statewide, with more than 1,000 new cases reported yesterday in just the Broward/Miami-Dade region.

The health and safety of all AMO members coast-to-coast and worldwide and of their families remains our highest priority, and we will continue to closely monitor the pandemic and make decisions based upon this priority, and in accordance with city, county, state and national requirements.

Official reports prepared for presentation to AMO members on June 8 and July 6 will be posted to the secure members-only page on the AMO website at www.amo-union.org for membership review.

We on the AMO Executive Board and all shore-side support staff appreciate the patience and understanding of the AMO membership as we continue to work responsibly to serve the seagoing men and women we are privileged to represent.

Thank you for listening.
