AMO headquarters remains closed after late-evening June 5 fire
The American Maritime Officers headquarters building in Dania Beach remains closed after a fire Friday night, June 5.
Damage from the blaze was limited to a small office construction space on the third deck, but water damage resulting from sprinkler activation in response to the 10:06 PM alarm was extensive on both the second and third floors.
No one was in the building at the time, and there were no injuries.
A remediation and repair team arrived on the scene at about 1:00 AM Saturday, June 6, clearing smoke from the building and beginning to dry workspaces, walls, ceilings and baseboards. This project remained underway June 11.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Broward County and state fire inspectors and by AMO's property insurance provider.
The AMO Executive Board anticipates reopening the building for union business no sooner than July 1.
