Coast Guard publishes marine safety alert on fuel switching


The U.S. Coast Guard has published a new marine safety alert, “Avoiding Propulsion Loss from Fuel Switching: American Petroleum Institute Technical Considerations,” on the agency’s Homeport Web site. The alert notes: “some ships have experienced propulsion losses linked to procedural errors or fuel oil incompatibility” when switching between residual fuels and distillate fuels.
