U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center, Regional Examination Centers will have limited capabilities Friday, April 17

On Monday, April 20, 2009, the U. S. Coast Guard will begin producing and issuing the new consolidated merchant mariner credential. In order to execute this change, the Coast Guard must take the Merchant Mariner Licensing and Documentation (MMLD) Web-based system off-line for a massive software update and testing period, National Maritime Center Commanding Officer Capt. David Stalfort stated in a recent bulletin.

Commencing at 6 a.m. Friday, April 17, MMLD will be shut down for a period of three days for this process. During this time, mariners will experience some disruptions to services, including application status checks and examinations.

The mariner information call center (888-IASKNMC) and local REC staff members will not have access to the merchant mariner database and will not be able to provide information regarding application status. Additionally, mariners who would like to take an examination on April 17 are strongly encouraged to contact the REC prior to April 17 to make the necessary preparations.

The Coast Guard expects these services to be restored by Monday morning, April 20. The complete bulletin is available on the NMC Web site.
