New jobs for AMO on two APL containerships


American Maritime Officers members will man two containerships APL will be re-flagging into U.S. registry.

The 900-foot containerships APL Cyprine and APL Pearl will be operated by APL Maritime Limited in international liner trades and manned in all licensed positions by AMO.

"The expansion of the U.S.-flag fleet is a positive and encouraging development for the American merchant marine as the global recession continues to press down on the shipping industry," said AMO National President Tom Bethel. "We're excited about the new opportunities for our members with APL and the continued growth of our job base."

The APL Cyprine is scheduled to be re-flagged at the beginning of May and the APL Pearl at the beginning of June. Built in 1998, the sisterships will carry a combination of commercial, government and military cargo in an approximately 60-day round-trip run between U.S. East Coast ports, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Oman.

AMO members interested in working aboard the ships should provide resumés to AMO National Deep-Sea Vice President Joe Gremelsbacker via , particularly deck officers with containership experience and engineering officers with experience on Sulzer slow-speed diesel engines.
