STAR Center receives Nautical Institute approval for new Dynamic Positioning Revalidation course

The Dynamic Positioning (DP) Revalidation course (five days) is intended for those who have already been issued a DP Operator certificate from the Nautical Institute (NI), but who are unable to revalidate their DPO certificate due to insufficient DP sea time. The overall course aim is to update the DPOs with information on the latest rules and regulations, position references and sensors, known DP incidents and lessons learned.

Entry standards

The minimum entry requirement is a DPO certificate issued by The NI. DPO certificates issued by the NI are valid for a five-year period and normally require 150 days DP time to be renewed.

If the participant is completing this course for the first time, there is no minimum DP sea time requirement to revalidate the DPO certificate. If the participant is completing the course for a second or subsequent time, a minimum of 28 days DP sea time will be required to revalidate. This DP time may be completed either prior to or after the revalidation course. In cases which the participant subsequently revalidates by completion of the full sea time requirement of 150 DP sea time days, the next revalidation may be undertaken as if for the first time.

The DP Revalidation course may be completed up to six months before the revalidation date set by the NI, and the certificate will be valid for a period of 12 months only.

STAR Center will be offering this course August 27 (subject to minimum enrollment). This course will take the place of the DP Advanced course currently scheduled to begin on that date.
