STAR Center adds two-week OICNW Celestial Navigation class


STAR Center has added a two-week Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch Celestial Navigation class running February 5 to 16. All eligible AMO members and applicants in need of this training are welcome to submit an application to attend.

The purpose of this class is to meet STCW OICNW celestial navigation training and assessment requirements, and increase the scope to oceans and remove the near coastal limitation for license/MMC endorsements less than 1,600 GT.

The course is approved for the following:
  • Satisfies STCW celestial navigation training requirements for Section A-II/1 for OICNW for vessels 500GT or more per 46 CFR 11.309
  • Provided the course certificate is submitted within one year, the Ocean Navigation Exam requirements - Nav General: Oceans, and Nav Problems: Oceans - to increase the scope of an endorsement as master or mate of self-propelled vessels less than 200, 500 or 1,600 GRT from near coastal to oceans
  • Practical assessments from NVIC 12-14 (STCW OICNW) for celestial navigation enclosure (2) assessments 1.1.A thru 1.1.F.
