Marine Transportation Specialist job opening at U.S. Coast Guard's National Maritime Center


The U.S. Coast Guard has announced an opening for a full-time Marine Transportation Specialist (GS-2101-13) at the National Maritime Center in Martinsburg, W.V.

There are two postings for the job opening, one for applicants from the general public and one for applicants who have merit promotion status. Applicants who fall into both categories are encouraged to apply under both postings, which are available at: The opening is a senior position in deck examinations, and according to the postings, responsibilities include managing "the development and revision of deck examinations for both Merchant Marine Officers and Ratings and associated publications. Using subject matter expertise gained through extensive industry experience, the incumbent will develop, and critique the development work of others, questions for deck examinations in compliance with regulation and policy."

The posted salary range is $94,796 to $123,234 per year.

Requirements include, but are not limited to: "Applicant must hold or have held a U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential in the grade of Chief Mate, Any Gross Tons, or higher or the equivalent military experience as Executive Officer or higher and as a qualified Officer of the Deck (OOD) on vessels of at least 1600 Gross Tons."
