Photos: M/V Freedom and Altair celebrate National Maritime Day

The M/V Freedom celebrated National Maritime Day on May 22 while underway at sea from Southampton, United Kingdom to Baltimore. All officers and crew mustered on the bridge at 1400 UTC hours to learn about the history of National Maritime Day and then to hear this year's Presidential Proclamation. The M/V Freedom is owned by American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC) as part of the Maritime Security Program and is manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.

AMO members aboard the M/V Freedom included Captain Scott D. Wiegand, Chief Mate Patrick Showell, Second Mate Jonathan Beil, Third Mate Brian Liamos, Chief Engineer Benjamin McKay, First Assistant Engineer Brian Barnes, Second A.E. Erik Osinski and Third A.E. Zachary Newman.

AMO members on the SS Altair, operated by Tote Services, Inc. for the U.S. Maritime Administration, dressed the ship as part of their observance of National Maritime Day in New Orleans.
