The House of Representatives yesterday voted to approve legislation that, among other things, includes full funding for the Maritime Security Program fleet through fiscal year 2009.
The Omnibus Appropriations Act for 2009, sponsored by Appropriations Committee Chairman Rep. David Obey (D-WI), was approved 245-178. The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
The legislation would provide funding for most but not all government agencies through Sept. 30, 2009. Some federal agencies and departments were funded by an earlier appropriations bill for fiscal 2009. Federal funding legislation currently in effect for many agencies expires March 6.
Included in the Omnibus Appropriations Act approved by the House is $174 million for the Maritime Administration to maintain the 60-ship Maritime Security Program fleet, full funding for the program during this fiscal year.
