Shell to recruit more LNG officers at AMO headquarters February 16 and 17

A Shell representative will visit American Maritime Officers headquarters in Dania Beach, Fla., February 16 and 17 to recruit AMO members to become candidates for both junior and senior engineering positions and electro-technical officer positions in the company's managed fleet of liquefied natural gas carriers.

Shell will be seeking first and second assistant engineers who have experience working aboard motor tankers, but do not need to have prior LNG experience, for training aboard the Shell-managed Nakilat LNG fleet vessels. They will also be seeking officers for positions as electro-technical officers (ETO). This position, while new to AMO, has gained acceptance with recent advances in the field of electronics and computers and the increasing reliance of vessel operations on technology. Skills required for this role are very new, highly sophisticated and constantly evolving. Former AMO radio operators with strong electronics background may be suited for this position. These officers will be training for both their present LNG and the new Shell-managed Nakilat LNG vessels.

Engineering officers selected by Shell will enter the Shell LNG training program aboard newbuild Shell-managed slow-speed diesel LNG carriers. ETOs may train in either fleet depending upon their individual experience. Officers selected will be required to complete the Shell LNG Familiarization Program, including a minimum of three months of sea time and shoreside training in Shell LNG fundamentals.

It is expected that officers would be assigned seagoing positions at their rating by Shell within six to nine months. Upon successful completion of all Shell training, AMO officers would be offered full contracts with Shell, which include AMO representation and all required contributions to the AMO Plans. Promotions will be in line with Shell requirements and the performance of individual officers.

Shell will be seeking a total of 16 to 18 candidates; however, the number may be flexible if more qualified AMO engineers are available.

To be eligible, officers must be AMO members in good standing with the required license or higher rating, as well as the required motor tanker experience, and will need to be available for interviews in Dania Beach February 16 and 17. Interested AMO members should e-mail their CV/resumé generated through the CHART system to AMO Director of New Business Development Tom Laird: .
