Thanksgiving: celebration and reflection

On behalf of the American Maritime Officers National Executive Board and all AMO representatives and support staff, I extend best wishes to all AMO members and their families for a happy Thanksgiving Day.

As we enjoy time with family and friends, as we count and appreciate our blessings, we salute our AMO brothers and sisters at work this day on deep-sea, Great Lakes and inland waters vessels - their service and sacrifice help define AMO, and we offer them our respect, admiration and gratitude.

And we pause to reflect on the tragic loss of 11 heroic AMO members aboard the El Faro - Captain Michael Davidson, Chief Engineer Richard J. Pusatere, Chief Mate Steven Shultz, Chief Engineer Jeffrey Mathias, Second Mate Danielle Randolph, First Assistant Engineer Keith Griffin, Third Mate Jeremie Riehm, Second Assistant Engineer Howard Schoenly, Third Assistant Engineer Michael Holland, Third Assistant Engineer Mitchell Kuflik and Third Assistant Engineer Dylan Meklin.

Our thoughts and prayers - and our commitment to assist in every possible way - remain with our El Faro families, who have shown remarkable strength, courage and character throughout their ordeal. We are thankful for their enduring example, and we wish them emotional peace in this holiday season and beyond.
