As the search continues for survivors from the El Faro, we all hold onto hope as tightly as we can in the face of these dire circumstances and increasingly fearful odds, none more so than the families, friends and shipmates of those who sailed from Jacksonville last week. Our hearts and thoughts and prayers are with the crew of the El Faro, with their families and friends, and with each other as we wait for any word on our loved ones, our shipmates, our brothers and sisters, through painfully long days and nights.
On behalf of all in American Maritime Officers, I offer my deepest gratitude to the Coast Guard crews, the Navy, the Air Force, and to all others contributing to this search, often in perilous conditions and always with exceptional skill and dedication. I also thank the team from the TOTE family of companies for their work here in Jacksonville on incident response operations, in keeping the families of the crew informed of new developments, and in bringing together a community of support for us all as our vigil continues.
