The Senate has confirmed Gen. Paul Selva as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Senate confirmed Gen. Darren McDew to replace him as commander of the U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM).
Gen. Selva was confirmed as commander of TRANSCOM in April 2014 and took command May 5, 2014. During his time in that command, Gen. Selva frequently addressed the importance and indispensable roles of U.S. merchant mariners, the U.S.-flag fleet and the laws and programs that support them to national defense sealift operations and strategy.
Gen. McDew was confirmed as commander of Air Mobility Command in April 2014. Previously, Gen. McDew served as commander of the 375th Air Mobility Wing and as vice commander of the 18th Air Force. He started his career as a C-17 and C-130 pilot, and has served in several capacities in Washington, D.C.
