STAR Center is seeking applications from members of American Maritime Officers to join The Engineering Candidate Hawsepipe (TECH) Program project team and for additional instructor and course development positions at the school in Dania Beach, Fla.
The AMO/SIU TECH Program has accepted its fourth class of candidates, who will begin their training at Piney Point this fall. The TECH Program has been very successful, and as with most new projects, is being adjusted and improved as lessons are learned during implementation. The most significant improvement identified is the need for enhanced efficiency in coordinating shore side training for program participants. This can be accomplished by consolidating all shore side training activities in one location, as opposed to two.
To implement this improvement, and to provide STAR Center and AMO closer contact with TECH Program participants throughout the training process, STAR Center will be modifying the current structure of the TECH Program to consolidate all shore side training in Dania Beach. This will require expansion of the course offerings at STAR Center to include all of the Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch courses, as well as the basic hands-on training currently being conducted at Piney Point. It will also require the addition of a machine shop and other training resources at STAR Center. The equipment will also be available for use by AMO members attending other engineering courses at the school.
STAR Center is forming the project team to complete modifications to the TECH Program while continuing to meet the current training needs of the AMO membership. STAR Center is seeking AMO engineering officers to augment the school's full time staff as adjunct instructors and developers.
The participation of active AMO members in modifying the TECH Program will help ensure the program's graduates will have the skills and work habits you are looking for onboard your ships.
Engineers interested in joining the project team, or in adjunct teaching and development positions at STAR Center, should . Current resumes and sailing histories will need to be submitted as part of the application process.
