AMO jobs maintained as heavy-lift Ocean Grand reflagged for MSP fleet

Intermarine has reflagged the newly built heavy-lift ship Ocean Grand into U.S. registry, maintaining the jobs of American Maritime Officers members as the ship replaces the Ocean Charger in the Maritime Security Program fleet.

Formerly the Industrial Grand, the ship was delivered to Intermarine in February. The Ocean Grand is operated by Crowley Technical Management, Inc. and is manned in all licensed positions by AMO.

The state-of-the-art heavy-lift ship is part of the company's "Fleet of the Future" program. With two cargo holds and three cranes with a combined lifting capacity of up to 900 metric tons, the 20,000 dwt 545-feet long Ocean Grand can carry a wide variety of cargo. The ship will be used to transport project cargo as well as military and food-aid cargoes around the globe as part of the Maritime Security Program fleet.

The Ocean Grand was reflagged earlier this month in Houston, Texas.

The Ocean Grand was reflagged into U.S. registry in June.

Members of American Maritime Officers working aboard the Ocean Grand in June, here in Houston, Texas, included Captain Jeff Sutton, master on the Ocean Grand, and Chief Engineer Derik Stubinski.

AMO members working aboard the Ocean Grand in June, here in Houston, Texas, included Third Mate Seadon Jackson, First Assistant Engineer Frank Altomare, Chief Engineer Derik Stubinski, Second A.E. Patrick Golonka and Chief Engineer Phong Vo. With them is AMO National Vice President, Inland Waters, David Weathers.
