EPA issues Penalty Policy for violations of fuel sulfur regulations in North American and U.S. Caribbean Sea Emission Control Areas

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued a "Penalty Policy" for violations of fuel sulfur limit regulations and other requirements for affected vessels operating in the North American and U.S. Caribbean Sea Emission Control Areas (ECAs).

Violations identified in the EPA Penalty Policy include record keeping. According to the policy, penalties will be determined based on the economic benefit that was derived by violating fuel sulfur regulations or alternative compliance requirements and the gravity of a violation.

The EPA Penalty Policy is available online.
