AMO participates in Military to Maritime career event in Texas

American Maritime Officers participated in the Military to Maritime career fair this month in Texas, which was attended by about 400 veterans. The event - sponsored by the American Maritime Partnership and hosted by the Port of Houston - is part of a national program to help connect the nation's servicemen and women with jobs in the American maritime industry.

"Military personnel have valuable experience and a lot of the same qualities as successful merchant marine officers, in addition to some very good training," said AMO National Assistant Vice President David Weathers. "Seagoing work provides great opportunities for military personnel making the transition and we're proud to be a part of putting our nation's veterans to work in the maritime industry."

Participants in Houston's Military to Maritime career fair on September 3 had the opportunity to meet with recruiters and HR staff from more than fifty organizations large and small, as well as maritime unions and schools; attend seminars on marine licensing and transition; take vessel tours; and visit with crew members and industry personnel who are veterans and made the transition to the maritime industry.
