U.S. Coast Guard releases five more NVICs related to STCW 2010; STAR Center preparing analysis


The U.S. Coast Guard has released five more Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circulars (NVICs) pertaining to the agency's implementation of STCW 2010. STAR Center is analyzing the new NVICs and will add appropriate information regarding requirements expected to affect American Maritime Officers members to the STAR Center website in the near future.

The NVICs bring the total number released to 24. The U.S. Coast Guard is expected to release a total of 26 NVICs pertaining to STCW 2010. The most recent NVICs are:
  • High-speed craft endorsements (NVIC 20-14)
  • Security endorsements (NVIC 21-14)
  • Tank vessel endorsements (NVIC 22-14)
  • Electro-technical officer endorsements (NVIC 23-14)
  • Electro-technical rating endorsements (NVIC 24-14)
The NVICs are available on the U.S. Coast Guard website.

STAR Center has published detailed guidance for deck and engineering officers on STCW 2010 training and upgrading requirements based on the NVICs the Coast Guard had previously released. This information is available on the STAR Center website.
