Military Sealift Command has exercised an option to extend the existing operating contract of General Dynamics American Overseas Marine covering the Bob Hope Class LMSRs for one year. The seven ships are manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.
The existing contract was originally awarded in 2010 and includes options that, if exercised, would extend through September 2017. The contract extension announced this month will remain in effect through April 2015. The company also operated the LMSRs - USNS Bob Hope, USNS Benavidez, USNS Brittin, USNS Fisher, USNS Mendonca, USNS Pililaau and USNS Seay - for MSC prior to the award of the existing contract.
AMSEA President Thomas Merrell said the company "has successfully operated the vessels in this program for the last nine years and we will continue our superior service for our customer."
