Jaenichen nominated to be maritime administrator


The President has nominated Acting Maritime Administrator Paul Jaenichen, Sr. to be the next maritime administrator. His nomination has been sent to the Senate for consideration.

Jaenichen was sworn in as deputy maritime administrator in July 2012 and has been serving as acting maritime administrator since May of this year. He was a nuclear trained submarine officer in the U.S. Navy and served for 30 years. His final assignment in the Navy was as deputy chief of legislative affairs for the Department of the Navy, concluding in April 2012. Jaenichen's naval career included service as commanding officer of the USS Albany, and commander of Submarine Squadron Eleven.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a Masters in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. His personal military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (four awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards) and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
