Shell to recruit more LNG engineers at AMO headquarters Oct. 27 and 28

Shell representatives will visit American Maritime Officers headquarters in Dania Beach, Fla., Oct. 27 and 28 to recruit AMO members to become candidates for senior engineering positions in the company's managed fleet of liquefied natural gas carriers.

Shell will be seeking first assistant engineers who have experience working aboard motor tankers trading worldwide, but who do not have prior LNG experience.

First assistant engineers selected by Shell will enter the Shell LNG training program, most likely aboard newbuild Shell-managed slow-speed diesel LNG carriers. Engineers selected will need to complete the Shell LNG Familiarization Program, including a minimum of three-months of seatime, as well as shoreside training in Shell LNG requirements.

It is expected that engineers would be assigned seagoing positions at their rating by Shell within six to nine months. Upon successful completion of all Shell training, AMO officers would be offered full contracts with Shell, which include AMO representation and all required contributions to the AMO Plans. Promotion to chief engineer is in line with Shell requirements and the performance of individual officers.

It is expected that Shell will be seeking 10 to 12 candidates; however, the number may be flexible if more qualified AMO engineers are available.

To be eligible, officers must be AMO members in good standing with the required license or higher rating, as well as the required motor tanker experience, and will need to be available for interviews in Dania Beach Oct. 27 and 28. Interested AMO members should their CV/resumé generated through the CHART system to AMO Director of New Business Development Tom Laird.
