The following message was sent to the USNS 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo by Commander of Military Sealift Command Rear Adm. Thomas Shannon. The USNS Bobo is operated for MSC by Maersk Line, Limited and is manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.
Captain Davis and Crew of USNS BOBO,
I commend you on receiving the Calendar Year 2012 CNO Afloat-Related Safety Award in the Auxiliary, Strategic Sealift category. I reviewed your submission and it is apparent to me that the crew of USNS BOBO operates the vessel with a safety culture frame of mind. I am very impressed with the fact that as of January 2013, BOBO had over 1800 days of continuous operation without a lost time accident. This included the ship conducting a 50-day major shipyard availability with no safety issues. USNS BOBO also received the Environmental Achievement Award from the Chamber of Shipping of America, in recognition of environmental excellence for the past five consecutive years of operation. I'm impressed that the crew is encouraged to "cross" train, learning about equipment that may be above and beyond their job description. A safety culture on a ship is critical to instill in a crew and I'm proud of USNS BOBO's crew for making this a priority and a way of life.
Keep up the great work! I am honored to serve with you!
