AMO-contracted vessels, companies receive Devlin Awards from Chamber of Shipping of America

The Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) in May presented Jones F. Devlin Awards to 12 companies that own and/or operate vessels manned under contract by members of American Maritime Officers. Devlin Awards are presented to companies with vessels that have operated for at least two years without a lost-time injury. The CSA also recognized vessels that performed feats to save lives, a ship or other property with Ship Safety Achievement Awards.

The awards were presented May 23, 2013, during the CSA Safety Awards Luncheon in New Orleans, La. Nearly 200 people representing more than 80 companies and organizations, including American Maritime Officers, attended the annual industry-sponsored event, now in its 55th year.

CSA President Joseph Cox commented that six vessels were recognized at the first safety awards program held in 1958. "This year, we gave awards to 1,438 vessels that operated 8,394 years without a lost-time incident. This extraordinary record is directly attributable to the professionalism of our seafarers and the dedication of shore-based company personnel to safe operation."

Among the recognized companies that own and/or operate vessels manned under contract by AMO were Crescent Towing; Crowley Liner Services (Crowley Technical Management); General Dynamics American Overseas Marine; Keystone Shipping Co. (Key Lakes); Maersk Line, Limited; Ocean Duchess, Inc.; Ocean Shipholdings, Inc.; OSG Ship Management, Inc.; Seabulk Tankers, Inc.; Seabulk Towing, Inc.; TOTE Services, Inc.; and USS Vessel Management LLC.

The Chamber of Shipping of America represents 35 U.S.-based companies that own, operate or charter oceangoing tankers, containerships and other merchant vessels engaged in both the domestic and international trades, as well as entities that maintain a commercial interest in the operation of such vessels.
