Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has recommended Gen. Duncan McNabb for the position of commander of the U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM), according to a Congressional Information Bureau report.
TRANSCOM Commander Gen. Norton Schwartz recently announced his retirement from the post. Lt. Gen. William Fraser III, U.S. Air Force, had been recommended as a successor to Schwartz. However, Fraser has now been recommended for Air Force vice chief of staff, according to the CIB report. Schwartz was recommended by Gates to become Air Force chief of staff.
The President's nominee for commander of TRANSCOM is subject to confirmation by the Senate Armed Services Committee.
