The U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center this week released the Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) 04-08, "Medical and Physical Evaluation Guidelines for Merchant Mariner Credentials."
Over the past two months, American Maritime Officers Director of Government Relations Mike Murphy, AMO National Executive Board members and AMO representatives have been going ship to ship briefing AMO members on the new medical guidelines and hearing and vision standards being used by the NMC to evaluate applications for Coast Guard licenses, documents and credentials.
AMO members with questions regarding NVIC 04-08 or the AMO Wellness Program can contact Murphy or other AMO officials and representatives for more information. The AMO online directory is available on the AMO Currents Web site.
The complete NVIC 04-08 and associated enclosures are available on the Coast Guard Web site. An updated overview of the new NVIC, now that it is available, will be published on AMO Currents and in the November edition of American Maritime Officer.
