AMO-contracted ships supporting post-Sandy relief effort


Vessels operated under contract with American Maritime Officers are now on scene and working in support of relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

On Nov. 3, the Ready Reserve Force ship S/S Wright departed Baltimore, Md. and arrived on station at Staten Island, N.Y. on Nov. 5. The S/S Wright immediately commenced providing food and lodging for nearly 100 Red Cross personnel working in the relief effort and the ship is prepared to accommodate more than 300 responders. The Wright is operated by Crowley Liner Services and is manned in all licensed positions by AMO.

The State University of New York Maritime College training ship T.S. Empire State VI is on station at Fort Schuyler, housing and feeding Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) personnel - more than 300 as of today. TOTE Services, Inc. is operating the T.S. Empire State VI and AMO members are working aboard the ship in licensed positions.

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy training ship T.S. Kennedy departed Sunday for Homeport, Staten Island and is now on station and supporting FEMA personnel - more than 400 as of today. The T.S. Kennedy is being operated by American Overseas Marine Corp. AMO members are working aboard the ship in licensed positions.
